Dental Implants

Dental Implants

What is now considered the standard for treating missing teeth, dental implants offer both exceptional function and esthetics. Since the first implant was placed in 1965, the technology has been perfected and success rates exceed the 95% range.

Dental implants are used to completely replace a missing tooth or multiple teeth. A small titanium screw is placed into the jaw bone and becomes incorporated into your own bone structure to replicate the root of the tooth. Depending on the amount of bone structure present in your jaw, we may need to place additional bone in the area to provide the needed support for the implant. Once the implant has fully healed, a custom dental crown is fabricated to fit over the implant and will replace your missing tooth.

Do I Need a Dental Implant?

There are a variety of reasons why a dental implant may be right for you:

  • missing a tooth
  • need an extraction due to severe decay or infection
  • trauma or lost a tooth from an injury
  • failure of root canal treatment
  • born with a missing tooth or teeth

Advantages of Dental Implants:

  • regain chewing function
  • improve quality of life
  • most realistic representative of a natural tooth
  • can keep clean just like a natural tooth
  • permanent
  • success rate greater than 95%

What If I’m Missing More Than One Tooth?

Dental implants can be used in a variety of ways in order to replace all of your missing teeth. Multiple implants can be placed as an anchor to support a dental bridge when a long space is present. Implants can be used to help retain loosely fitting dentures or provide more stability when there is not enough bone structure present. Implant supported dentures are also a treatment option when all teeth are missing and a permanent, non-removable option is wanted.

Dental implants are a great investment for anyone who is missing one or multiple teeth. If you would like any additional information regarding missing tooth options, or would like to schedule an appointment, call Newport Beach Dentistry today at 949-644-9181.
